I was very honored to be asked to submit my research and photographs about the Snells beach Shorebirds and Waterfowl to be included in the Highfield Garden Reserve Timecapsule in November 2019 to be opened in fifty years.
It is hoped the detailed information in my report about our Snells species would be of great benefit to compare their numbers and health in the future.
I wrote to the future highlighting the challenges for New Zealand’s and Snells declining birds, including the Resource Managment Act, Unitary Plan, Non notified Council development consents, a non holistic approach to development, the wholesale felling of nearly 1/3 of Aucklands urban forest and all the tall beachfront roosting trees, in only the last five years, taking away habitat
